The Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador
is advertising for our next Executive Director.

Founded in 1968, the Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HCANL), is a non-profit organization that represents the interests and advocates on behalf of companies engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, municipal infrastructure, water and sewer, concrete structures, marine structures, hydroelectric structures, airport facilities, and other civil construction works in general. Our membership includes contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and affiliated technical and supporting companies throughout the province.

The Executive Director will be the driving force behind the HCANL’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives. This pivotal leadership role will require a visionary who can inspire collaboration, engage with diverse stakeholders, and champion the heavy civil industry’s interests.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for leading the HCANL’s strategic planning and execution; creating and communicating the culture of the organization; overseeing day-to-day operations and financial management; building and maintaining strong relationships with members, government officials, community stakeholders, and corporate business partners; and advocating for the Heavy Civil Industry.

As the ideal candidate, you have an undergraduate degree in any field that may be relevant to the advocacy, or promotional aspects of the industry with 5 to 10 years of career progression, or equivalent experience and education. You have a deep understanding of the Heavy Civil industry, its challenges, opportunities, and regulatory landscape. You have experience in strategic planning, financial management, and negotiating. You are a strategic thinker with a track record of leading organizations to achieve their goals. You can make sound decisions in ambiguous situations and plan actions to fit strategy. You possess excellent communication and advocacy skills to engage with stakeholders, government officials, and the public. You can lead a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. 

The position offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position will be based in St. John’s, with travel required throughout the province, region and country as required.
